Styling Summer Outfits for Midsize Bodies – with comfort in mind!

I’ll be honest: the approach of summertime used to stress me out. I’m not a size 2 anymore. I have thick thighs that don’t appreciate being stuffed into denim shorts. I have big arms that have made me self-conscious being exposed. My boobs are a hot, sweaty mess no matter what. I felt like I had to cover up and hide my body.

I’ve decided that’s no longer an option for me, and I think all people should embrace their bodies and wear whatever they want, any time of year. I know it’s much easier said than done, and I will be sharing lots on how I’ve found body acceptance and self love despite the societal beauty standards we face every day. In the meantime, I want to focus on comfort. Summer can be challenging for mid and plus size folks. Fashion doesn’t have to come at the cost of pain – sweat, chafing, you name it.

Here are a few mid-size outfit ideas to inspire you to dress your body with love and fun this summer.

Bralettes + Bermuda Shorts

This outfit was so shockingly comfy for me! These bermuda shorts don’t cut into my waist or thighs, and this super stretchy tank top is lightweight and cool. I wear bralettes most of the year, but especially in hot weather. The white crocheted halter neck feels so summery.

Bralette:

Balance Athletica (wait for it to go on sale or grab this one from Old Navy that I might use my Super Cash on…)

Top:

Old Navy

Shorts:

Target

Shoes:

Vans

Belt bag:

Shein

Bodysuit + Mom Jeans

Old Navy for the win with this outfit! This stretchy square-neck bodysuit is actually so cozy with a cotton feel. I never thought I’d wear a bodysuit, but it truly does look smoother tucked in and you don’t have to be constantly re-tucking your top in and dealing with the bulge of extra fabric. These jeans are just *chef’s kiss* PERFECT. They’re a rigid type of denim, so at first I assumed they wouldn’t accommodate my curves. However, the non-stretch material actually allows the denim to mold to your body without suffocating you. The high-waisted straight leg is more flattering on my short body than I thought it would be, too!

Sandals:

Target (no longer available, but these are similar!)

Wristlet:

Coach (gift from my future mother-in-law)

Jumpsuit

This ensemble is probably my favorite find so far this summer. The jumpsuit is a bit expensive regular priced, but if it goes on sale again, I might cop the black color too! The button-up detail and the tie waist keep the jumpsuit from being too basic, and I think you could easily dress it up or down. It’s literally as comfortable as pajamas.

Free People

Jumpsuit:

Abercrombie

Sandals:

Target

Belt bag:

Shein

I hope these couple mid-size summer outfits give you some ideas on how to stay comfy and stylish this summer. You definitely don’t have to style the pieces the same way I did; mix it up and make it fit your personal style. Fashion is so fun to experiment with, especially when you find ways to accentuate and celebrate your body, without sacrificing comfort.
